Bring Your Own Device #BYOD #ConnectedEducators Learning Community

Interested in discovering what it means when we empower students to BYOD? You are invited to join a vibrant connected educators learning community to do just that and you can even received contact hours from an accredited state University. 



The community includes blog posts, twitter chats, Facebook pages, Google communities, and video conferencing that will take place throughout the year.


Anyone can join, but you can receive up to 18 contact hours from Bowling Green State University by registering at http://www.bgsu.edu/colleges/edhd/pdregister.html. When you get there, look for "Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Learning Community" and select the yellow button that says “Register.”  The fee is $50. Note: All contact hours can be accumulated online. There is an optional face-to-face event.



To follow is a timeline of the four topics that will be addressed and the various platforms that will be used, followed by an outline explaining how to accumulate contact hours.



To receive up to 18 contact hours participants must complete any combination of activities and write a blog post reflection for each activity. Participants will receive two hours of credit when attending a one hour activity and writing a blog post reflection. The activities are as follows.
  • Face to Face:
    Attendance at a face-to-face event where BYOD is featured. You will receive one hour credit for attendance and one hour for the blog post reflection. You must have proof of attendance for each activity attended.

    Maximum 6 hours.
  • Google Hangouts:
    Two contact hours will be awarded for participation in a Google Hangout and reflective blog post.

    Dates: 11/4, 2/10, 4/7
    Maximum 6 hours.
  • Twitter Chats:  
    Two contact hours will be awarded for participation in a one-hour #BYOTchat on Twitter (Thursday evenings at 9 p.m. EST) and reflective blog post. The post must contain links to at least three Tweets.
    Maximum 6 hours.
  • Online community:
    Contribute posts or comments on the Facebook Page and/or Google Community around each of the four topics. Two contact hours can be awarded per topic for participation after it is included in a blog post reflection.  The reflection must include links to your online participation.
    Maximum 8 hours.
Note: Following registration, you will receive an invitation to contribute to the blog. When posting to the blog, you will select only ONE label corresponding to one of the four topics Building BlocksCommunity cultureEquity and AccessManaging BYOD. Do not add a label. Before posting, you must find someone to proofread your post and cite them as an editor.  
To receive contact hours you will receive an electronic form to submit and return which contains links to your completed work. Make sure you keep a record of your online interactions.
